The Best 4-Letter Word

REST just might be the best 4-letter word I know!  This week was full of busy-ness. At first I felt focused and accomplished as I balanced my personal life, work, training & checking things off my "to-do" list.  As the week went on, I began feeling the swell of (self imposed) pressure to get "everything" done.    One thing that "got done" was creating a space for my spiritual practice. Whenever I felt hurried, overwhelmed or spent after a workout it was great to have a place of my own to simply BE.  In this space I do whatever I want to reconnect with the current of peace and calm within me. I pray, dance, color, nap...whatever I am moved to do.  Even if its just for a few minutes, this time and space ALWAYS refuels me.  For this I am thankful!

Surf's Up!

Even on a hike in the desert there's water!
I have ALWAYS loved the water.  So much so that my mother used to call me her "water baby."  I was always the first one into the water, last one out.  Only, I never learned to swim properly.  I didn't mind so much but now it really matters! Why? Because My GirlTrek Trailblazer adventure is to learn to SURF!  Whaaa?  I've never known any surfers personally, certainly never seen any black surfers (not even on TV)...till I started doing some research. So WHY SURFING?

Late Bloomer

This week I started my very first solo garden...yup...midsummer.  Better late than never right?   As everyone knows, I LOVE to cook, especially with fresh organic ingredients so I guess it was about time to embark on this journey.  My friend and local gardening expert, Brandie, came over and made it soooo crazy easy to get started.  Gotta love that, eh! We planted purple beans, red potatoes, okra, zucchini, squash, tomatoes and garlic.  I also saved some raggedy parsley, chives, green onions, lemon balm and mint plants that were on the outs.  We were done in 45 minutes!  I water once daily and should see some results within a week or two.  Easy breezy fun!
