OMGoodness! Laughter feels so goood! :)
LAUGHTER MEDITATION
The following Laughter Yoga practice is modified from one I learned from Dr. Madan Kataria. It's easy and beautiful. Enjoy!
- Sit comfortably on a mat or chair (I like sitting on my zafu w/ pillows all around me)...
- Close your eyes...
- Take a few slow, deep inhales and exhales...
- Bring to mind a significant person* in your life...
- Visualize something you love about them (or something they do or a way they are that you like)...
- Animate them (see them being or doing what you love) for a moment...
- Once they are animated, giggle softly, and move on to the next person in your life...
Continue until you have gone through a few people...
- Take a few slow, deep inhales and exhales...
- Giggle for YOURSELF then open your eyes.
* A few things to note:
1. This exercise can also be done with significant events. 2. "Significant person" includes those who frustrate you or may have even hurt you. If you have great difficulty w/ a particular person at first, I suggest finding something about yourself that is positive that came as a result of your experience with them. (Perhaps you see yourself now as a survivor or you work with people who are going through what you did....).
What I love about this practice... It invites me to seek, recognize and celebrate something loveable in all people and all experiences. It may not always be easy but I have fun with it. I especially like the giggles as I "turn the page" to animate the next person/ event. For those who decide to try this practice, would you let me know how it goes for you? Thanks & enjoy!
